- Major Gifts Officer
Description
Kristi House seeks a Major Gifts Officer to steward an assigned portfolio of 75 to 125 individual and corporate donors drawn from our major donor base. We define major donors as the top 10% of our donors, ranked by cumulative giving over five years. The portfolio is a focused subset of that group, selected for readiness to engage at the $10,000 level and above.
This is a senior, donor-facing role centered on deep relationships, significant philanthropic commitments, and long-term engagement. The officer is accountable for the quality and progression of their portfolio, a reliable active forecast, and an agreed scorecard. Colleagues responsible for events, communications, institutional giving, and gift operations support the role so the officer can stay focused on major donors.
Work is performed under the direction of the Chief Philanthropy Officer and in close partnership with the CEO.

Requirements
Major Donor Relationships
- Own and actively manage an assigned portfolio of major donors, tailoring strategy to each donor's interests, history, capacity, and readiness.
- Build trust through direct conversation, personalized cultivation, transparent proposals, and well-timed invitations for significant gifts, multiyear commitments, renewals, and increased investment.
- Steward commitments through gratitude, relevant impact reporting, agreed recognition, and continued engagement after the gift.
- Know donors as people, not only as giving histories.
- Exercise discretion, cultural humility, and respect for donor preferences, privacy, and the dignity of the children and families we serve.
Portfolio Strategy and Forecasts
- Lead a planned transition for inherited relationships, including introductions, a review of each donor's history and commitments, and a contact plan for the first 90 days.
- Keep a current written strategy, relationship objective, and next action for every active portfolio relationship in Bloomerang CRM.
- Maintain an evidence based, active forecast of expected solicitations and commitments, including stage, amount or range, likely timing, confidence, dependencies, and changes since the last review. Discuss uncertainty honestly and update forecasts as relationships evolve.
- Review portfolio progress with the Chief Philanthropy Officer at an agreed cadence and take responsibility for the measures in the role's scorecard, including donor engagement, relationship progression, solicitations, stewardship, renewals, and revenue.
- Use giving patterns and relationship context to inform judgment. Flag stalled relationships, concentration risk, missed commitments, and emerging opportunities. Recommend reassignment or additional support when needed.
Mission Aligned Collaboration
- Work with program leaders to understand strategy, needs, impact, and credible opportunities for donor investment, and convey the organization's work accurately and without extracting stories from people served.
- Bring executives, board members, and colleagues into donor relationships when their involvement can advance a shared objective, preparing and debriefing them while preserving clear relationship ownership.
- Coordinate with events, communications, institutional giving, and gift operations colleagues so the donor experience is coherent.
- Uphold fundraising ethics, donor intent, confidentiality, equity, and organizational decision rights. Do not promise programs, outcomes, access, or influence that the organization has not approved.
